The extension reads only the ChatGPT content needed for an export you request. Export processing happens on your device. The developer does not operate an export server, collect your conversations, sell personal data, or use advertising or analytics trackers.
1. Information the extension handles
When you use an export feature, the extension may temporarily handle information already available in your signed-in ChatGPT session, including:
- Conversation titles, messages, timestamps, and selected metadata.
- Images, files, source links, and other rich content you choose to include.
- The active ChatGPT page URL and page content required to identify the open conversation.
- Your extension preferences, such as export format and content toggles.
- A temporary ChatGPT session token when needed to list conversations or retrieve content from ChatGPT's own first-party services.
2. How information is used
This information is used only to provide the user-facing features you initiate: showing available chats, preparing selected content, retrieving selected first-party assets, and creating export files in your chosen format.
3. Local processing and transmission
Export generation is performed locally in your browser. ChatGPT Export does not send your conversation content to a developer-controlled server. It does not sell, rent, share, or use your content for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or training AI models.
When you request an account-wide list or an export containing first-party assets, the extension may communicate directly with ChatGPT's authenticated web services and the original asset hosts. Those requests use your existing ChatGPT session and are made only to fulfill the action you requested.
4. Storage and retention
- Conversation data: not retained by the developer. It remains in memory only as needed to create your export.
- Session token: held in memory when required and not written to extension storage.
- Preferences: saved using Chrome's extension storage so your settings can persist. You can reset them or remove the extension to clear them.
- Downloaded exports: saved where you choose and remain under your control.
5. Chrome permissions
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| activeTab | To access the ChatGPT conversation you are actively viewing after you interact with the extension. |
| storage | To remember extension preferences such as format and content options. |
| chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com | To display the in-page exporter, list your conversations, and retrieve content you explicitly choose to export. |
6. Limited Use disclosure
ChatGPT Export's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
7. Security
The extension minimizes data access and avoids a developer-controlled content server. No method of software delivery is completely risk-free, so keep Chrome and the extension updated and review an export before sharing it.
8. Your choices
You decide which chats, messages, images, files, sources, and metadata to include. You may stop using the extension or uninstall it at any time through Chrome's extension manager.
9. Children's privacy
The extension is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the extension's features or legal obligations change. Material updates will be reflected by the effective date above.
11. Contact
Questions about privacy can be sent to the developer, Rakibul Hashan Rabbi, through the official author website.
